Water Distribution Operator Associate About the Company: The Edwardsville Water Corporation is a non-profit corporation established in October, 1963 by virtue of the Laws of the State of Indiana, for the express purpose of creating and maintaining a supply of fresh, potable water to residents of Edwardsville and its surrounding areas. Job Description: Edwardsville Water Corporation is seeking a motivated and qualified individual for an entry to intermediate level position as a Water Distribution Systems Operator. This full-time position is involved in all areas of operations from meter reading to mainline repairs. Operators perform the tasks necessary to construct, maintain and operate the Edwardsville Water Corporation’s drinking water distribution system. The work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements, heavy traffic, noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, airborne particles, noxious odors, grease, oil, cleaning chemicals, solvents and spills. Operators are required to take on-call responsibility including nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Job duties and responsibilities Essential Duties: • Perform skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of water production, treatment and delivery systems • Review treatment process and determine proper dosage of chemicals required • Install, troubleshoot, repair and replace underground water mains and service laterals, using basic plumbing tools, tapping machine, pipe cutters, threader, reamer, pipe wrenches and assorted pneumatic and hydraulic tools • Install water meters and meter boxes; test, read and repair water meters; • Collect and document water samples to determine water temperature and levels of, chlorine, and contaminates such as lead and copper; follow procedures to document and ensure the accuracy of sampling • Follow safe work practices and observe safety rules and precautions; determine and set up safe work zone traffic control and maintain a safe work environment • Notify the public of utility related activities that impact traffic and utility operations • Work in confined space environment such as holes • Inspect water system for leaks, construction flaws or root invasions; remove meter boxes and covers • Works with Field Manager on record keeping and operation and maintenance logs • Responds to inquiries and investigates and resolves customer complaints • Maintain records of work performed • Must have basic computer skills and the ability to use a Handheld device for meter reading Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or General Education Degree required • Demonstrate the proper use of equipment, tools, material and methods used in underground water distribution or installation maintenance and repair • Have an understanding of the mathematics related to water distribution • Must have the ability to perform physical labor and can lift 50 pounds. • Must be able to read and understand documents such as work orders • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check and drug test. • Must be able to work as a member of a team • Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, management and customers • Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times • Must accomplish tasks in a timely manner Preferred Qualifications • Two years’ experience working for a water utility company • Class A CDL • WT 3 License • DSL License • electrical and mechanical principles related to maintenance and repair of pumps, motors and other electrical equipment; safe working conditions and practices including handling hazardous chemicals; operational and maintenance requirements of SCADA; principles and practices of distribution system operation such as water quality, sources of supply, sanitation and disinfection; Compensation We offer competitive hourly rates and progressive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, along with a generous retirement plan.
